LET'S DISCUSS THE FIRST STAGE

Once the main body was finished I wanted to start adding detail to the piece, I wanted to shows a snake like 3D pattern. I wanted to make my own design but I had some inspiration from Mars 1. I used a white pencil to start with.

Mars 1 uses elements of DNA and micro-organisms in his work. When looking through a telescope I thought it looked like another world, this give me the idea of using the DNA.

I decided that I was going to zoom into the photos I had taken to see if it gave a close comparison.

I am unsure if I should paint or use oil pastel. I could use a mix of both which I am going to experiment with. It can be difficult to add detail onto my piece because the cardboard I am using has  bumps so to upgrade my piece I could use a better quality board so that I can create a more detailed finish.  Due to the texture of the cardboard the oil pastels I am using show up darker than expected.  I do like my background which is something I am going to keep in mind for my next piece, I could do the same style but use lighter colours.

EARLY START

My Painting

I have decided I am going to attempt my own piece. My first decision was to choose the scale of size of was going to work on. I wanted my piece to be large so I decided I am going to work on cardboard and I would like to work directly onto the school's white walls because that's what Mars 1 did. I am creating shapes and trying to layer those shapes with points of perspective against those without perspective. For example, in the first sweeps of using a brush I created an energy in space, the background is black to represent space. The brush marks show movement, however, they have no perspective. I am using my book to journal my progress. To practise things first. I will keep a photographic journey too.
